EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAM

The Educational Outreach Program (EOP) of the Susquehanna Chorale offers an opportunity for young singers to experience a high level of choral instruction and performance. There are four youth choral programs offered:

  • the Susquehanna Children's Chorale (by audition)

  • the Susquehanna Youth Chorale (by audition)

  • the Susquehanna Young Women's Chorale (by audition)

  • the Susquehanna Preparatory Choir (open to any child in third or fourth grade)

Although the organizations are based in the Harrisburg area, membership is drawn from throughout south-central Pennsylvania. Scroll down for more information about each group.

Season

The season for the auditioned groups begins in August and culminates with the Youth Choral Festival in November. Students who participate bring their enhanced skills back to their school choirs and many continue to sing through college and beyond. These ensembles also provide an outlet for singers who may be home-schooled or would not otherwise have an opportunity to experience choral singing with their peers.

Internship

The program sponsors a conducting internship each season with one of the choirs for college juniors and seniors in the local area. Interns are chosen based on application and recommendations from their college music directors.
