"A conductor can’t survive without conducting," said Linda
Tedford on considering what inspired her to begin the Susquehanna Chorale 26
years ago. Under her skilled direction, the Susquehanna Chorale has more than
survived -- it has thrived.
Linda Tedford is the Founder, Conductor, and Artistic Director of
the Susquehanna Chorale, based in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She is also responsible
for the creation of the Chorale’s Educational Outreach program for area
elementary through first year college students. Under her leadership, the
Susquehanna Chorale has performed at regional and state conventions of the
American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and for the Legislature and
Governor of Pennsylvania, and completed a highly successful concert tour of
Great Britain in 1997. The group is the 1994 recipient of Chorus America’s
highest award, The Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Choral Excellence, and
is the Resident Chamber Choir at Whitaker Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
In addition, Linda Tedford is
"Artist-in-Residence" at Messiah College, Grantham, Pennsylvania,
where she conducts the Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers, and the Messiah
College Choral Arts Society. She also teaches conducting and voice.
Ms. Tedford holds a Master of Music degree in
Choral Conducting from Temple University, where she studied with Robert Page.
She pursued additional study at Westminster Choir College, as well as with
prominent conductors such as Robert Shaw, Gregg Smith, and Dale Warland, and
with voice teachers Robert Grooters and Thomas Houser. She has served as a
member of the Choral/Opera Panel for the PA Council on the Arts, and has been
the Community Choruses Repertoire and Standards Committee Chairperson for ACDA
in Pennsylvania and in the Eastern Division. She maintains membership in Chorus
America, the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association of
Teachers of Singing, and the Music Educators National Conference, serving as a
board member for ACDA-PA as liaison between ACDA and Chorus America.
