A Signature Concert:
Music of the Masters and Modern Marvels

Friday, May 15, 2009, 8:00 pm, Whitaker Center, Harrisburg
Saturday, May 16, 2009, 8:00 pm, Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, Palmyra

Coming off a successful 2008 European tour that included concerts in Austria and Germany, the Susquehanna Chorale will present works of European masters Joseph Haydn from the classical period, George Frideric Handel from the late Baroque period, and Felix Mendelssohn from the Romantic period. Relish selections from Haydn’s Creation. [The Susquehanna Chorale, the Wheatland Chorale and the Messiah College Concert Choir, will perform Creation in its entirety with the Harrisburg Symphony in October 2009.]

Hear the music of Eric Whitacre and understand why his work with its universal appeal has created such a sensation. Some of Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs, with lyrics by his wife, Hila Plitmann, are thoughtful and slow while others are upbeat and fun. You will also enjoy works by other contemporary composers who are leaving their mark: The Gartan Mother’s Lullaby by Neil Ginsberg, Bear Me Gently by Kinley Lange, Go, Lassie Go! by Mark Sirett and Ain’t No Grave Can Hold My Body Down, arranged by Paul Caldwell and Sean Ivory. In addition, Lou Ann Potter will perform Felix Mendelssohn’s song cycle for solo piano, Song Without Words. This is music to put a spring in your step and a song in your heart.
