Margaret Hillis Achievement
Award for Choral Excellence
The Susquehanna Chorale is proud to have been the 1994
recipient of this award given by Chorus America. The Chorale is the first all-volunteer choir to receive this award.
"This one-time award, which recognizes Miss Hillis for
her more than forty years of professional achievement and
outstanding contributions to the choral art, is presented
annually to an ensemble which demonstrates artistic excellence, a
strong organizational structure, and a commitment to outreach,
educational, and/or culturally diverse activities."
Margaret Hillis was the beloved founder and director of the Chicago
Symphony Chorus. Ms. Hillis pioneered the promotion
of choral singing in America, bringing recognition to it as an
art form in its own right.

ACDA
The Susquehanna Chorale was selected to perform at the 2000 American Choral
Directors Association Eastern Regional Convention,
which was held in Baltimore, Maryland, February 16-19.
The ACDA conventions provide the opportunity for choral
directors from around the country to attend workshops, lectures,
and to mingle with others in the field of choral music. The
conventions feature performances by choral groups of all ages and
styles, selected by audition, and honoring those of the highest
quality.
The Chorale previously performed at the ACDA regional
conventions in 1984, 1988 and 1994 in Baltimore, Philadelphia,
and Washington, DC, and the 1997 State ACDA Conference. The group
was also selected to perform for the ACDA National Convention in
Louisville, Kentucky. This is an honor in recognition of the high
standards achieved by the Chorale.
